Announcing the ClickUni Start! page - now available in beta

So, the day is finally here… I’m happy to announce that the ClickUni Start! page is now live and ready for use!

So, what is the ClickUni Start! page? Apart from being the latest feature from ClickUni…

“Imagine being able to search Google, Facebook, Wikipedia and YouTube with one search box. Having the latest news & events from around uni, information from your Facebook friends and your choice of news feeds to keep you updated with life outside the bubble. All this, on one page - ClickUni Start!”

We’ve designed the ClickUni Start! page to bring together everything an Oxford student might need online, all in one place. It works best when set as your home page, giving you quick access to everything that’s going on in your life both on and off campus.

A quick overview of the features available:

  • The integrated search box at the top gives the ability to search all the popular internet destinations such as Google, Facebook, Wikipedia and many more.
  • The clock below the search box gives you the current date - also in Oxford weeks!
  • You can customise the widgets in the main body of the page to display just what you want, how you want it. Add stuff, move things around and hide things you don’t need.

Some of the widgets available:

  • Information from ClickUni: Latest posts and upcoming events
  • Tools: Bookmarks, Calculator, Clock, Weather forecasts and ISIS flag status
  • Facebook information: Your notifications, profile and friend’s birthdays, status updates and recent photo albums
  • News feeds: BBC News and Sport, Cherwell24 or add any other RSS/Atom feed

For the first few days and weeks things might be a bit rough around the edges, so please bear with us! Your feedback during these early stages is invaluable - please let us know your thoughts, comments, suggestions, gripes and requests.. we’ll do our best to listen to what you want and aim to keep constantly improving.

We build the ClickUni Start! page in response to the popularity of the news feeds, links and tools we made available on the right of the ClickUni homepage at www.clickuni.com. People wanted more choice and flexibility, and the combination of external news feeds and content with the latest news, events and society information from ClickUni all on one page made things rather cramped and busy to look at.

With the launch of the ClickUni Start! page we’re breaking off half of the functionality of the old ClickUni homepage to a separate location. Please feel free to use ClickUni Start! as your homepage if you wish, or just visit it occasionally as a gateway to the many sources of information available. In the next few weeks we’ll be redesigning the main ClickUni homepage as the gateway to all the core information on ClickUni, such as the directory of Clubs and Societies and what’s on throughout the university.

Welcome to the ClickUni Blog

Welcome to our blog! We will keep you updated with our progress and any useful developments that we believe you would want to hear about.

ClickUni has been created over the past year by AJ, Dave and Andy. We all felt that students faced a big problem when trying to find out what was happening at all the different clubs and societies around Oxford University. After the start of the year, having had access to all of them at the freshers’ fair, students wanted to be able to find out news and events from these clubs and societies quickly and efficiently. This often proved to be a challenge. What we have created is a place where all the student bodies in Oxford can share this information with other students who need it.

Today we launched Beta version 1 of the site. For the next 2 weeks while everyone is experiencing ClickUni for the first time we want to hear your ideas, thoughts and feedback on the site. We are launching the official ClickUni site during freshers’ week.

Clubs and societies - you can sign up now to post your news and events for the upcoming term.

Students – check back in during freshers’ week to see the ClickUni Diary and check out What’s On.
